Becoming a Patient in Maryland

Before visiting or reserving products at an Ethos dispensary, you must become a certified patient or caregiver under Maryland’s medical cannabis program. The steps for becoming a patient or caregiver in Maryland are discussed below. To become a certified patient or caregiver, you or the patient for which you are providing care must have one of the qualifying serious medical conditions mentioned below. Qualifying Conditions

Qualifying medical conditions for residents of Maryland include:

(i) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition that results in a patient being admitted into hospice or receiving palliative care; or

(ii) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or the treatment of a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition that produces:
1. Cachexia, anorexia, or wasting syndrome;
2. Severe or chronic pain;
3. Severe nausea;
4. Seizures;
5. Severe or persistent muscle spasms;
6. Glaucoma;
7. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); or
8. Another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective.

Regulatory Requirements

Obtaining a Marlyand medical cannabis ID card requires the following steps:

  • Visit the Patient Registration system and review in patient instructions and information you will need to complete the online application.
  • A photo, valid US or state government-issued photo ID, and proof of Maryland address or patient’s treatment at a Maryland medical facility is required.
  • Visit the Patient Registration system at at: and create a patient profile and submit the online application.
  • After submitting the application, you will be emailed a verification request. You MUST click on the verification link in the email to verify your account.
  • Retain the approval email for your records. It contains your Username, which you will need to log in to the Patient Registry, as well as your MMCC Patient ID Number, which your physician will need in order to issue your written certification for medical cannabis.
  • Visit a physician who is registered with the Maryland medical canabis program. Visit the MMCC Provider Register to locate a physician.
  • Meet with the physician who will certify that you suffer from a qualifying serious medical condition.
